Submitted by tournament director Frank Connor - The Eighteenth Annual Charles Dutton Water Polo Tournament was held ...
...in Southlake, Texas, on March 7-8, 2009. It was relatively small with only six teams, but with all four of the old classic Texas teams (and a few of the old classic players). Austin, Dallas, HOPS (from Houston) and San Antonio entered, along with a Dallas B team and the St. Marks Lions (Dallas high school). Some of the top four teams were missing some of their best players during part of the tournament, but generally the games between them were hard fought except one where two or three of San Antonio's top players were not yet at the tournament when San Antonio played Austin. HOPS had no subs on Saturday and only one on Sunday.
The play format was a round robin. Both first place and third place were decided by goal differentials as Austin and HOPS tied 5-5 and Dallas and San Antonio tied at 9-9. Austin (+16) secured their first place finish by beating San Antonio 14-1 and Dallas 10-7, while HOPS (+6) beat San Antonio 10-5 and Dallas 8-7.
