By admin - Date: 2010-07-26 00:14:28

The 8th Houston Summer Open returned to Sugar Land for the first time since 2005 and featured 17 teams in...

...three divisions formatted for round robin competition. Co-host HOPS entered two teams in the open division and both went undefeated through four games, although a few matchups proved to be quite competitive. The last game was scheduled between the two HOPS teams and it turned out to be the division deciding game. HOPS-1 (mostly college players) scored first, but HOPS-2 (mostly masters players) stormed back to lead most of the game. HOPS-1 finished the game scoring five unanswered goals to win 11-9. It was HOPS' third consecutive Houston Summer Open tournament title. Dallas Masters edged Dirty Bay, 12-11, to earn a 3rd Place finish.

In the women's division, the Dirty Bay Red team dominated the competition and went undefeated, outlasting the Dream Team, 12-5, in the last game for these two previously undefeated teams. Dirty Bay's second team tied for 3rd place with Houston Storm.

The Houston Storm Green team easily won the 18&U division by winning all of their games by at least 12 goals. Dirty Bay edged Dallas Youth Yellow by a goal to place 2nd.

Several of the age group teams from Dallas WPC, Houston Storm and Dirty Bay were tuning up for the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics which begins next week in Los Angeles, CA, see www.juniorolympics.com.
