...December 5-6, for the annual Dallas Fall Invite. Held a little later than normal, eight teams from throughout the Southwest Zone played in two divisions. With the Connor Cup Series also on the line, there was fierce competition in the round robin event. On Saturday, the tournament started out with a major upset in the opening games as the Connor Cup Series leader, HOPS, came up short to the upstart Dallas Youth A team 10-6. HOPS rebounded with two wins against Dallas Masters B and San Antonio the rest of the day while the Dallas Youth A went on to split their two remaining games with a loss to Dallas Masters A and a win against Houston Storm A. On Sunday, the games finished up with Houston Storm A outlasting Dallas Masters B 14-9, San Antonio and Dallas Youth A playing to a 10-10 conclusion, and HOPS losing to Dallas Masters A 10-7. In the end, Dallas Masters A placed first with an undefeated record of 5-0, Dallas Youth A finished second, with HOPS coming in third. This marked the first time in the long and storied history of the Dallas Water Polo Tournaments that Dallas placed both first and second in their own tournament. With its third place finish, HOPS secured the Connor Cup Series Championship for 2009 with Dallas Water Polo Club placing 2nd. In the B Division, Houston Storm B outlasted Dallas Youth B in the four game shootout winning three of the four games. In 2010, the Dallas Fall invite moves back to its traditional early November timeslot with secured dates of November 6-7, 2010.
